Stay in control of your debit card through BMO Digital Banking
Managing your debit card online is easy, secure and convenient.

Online shopping
Use your debit card to pay for online purchases up to $3000 from Canadian retailers who accept Debit Mastercard. Visit mastercard.ca/debit for participating Canadian merchants. For international retailers, use your debit card on any international website where Mastercard is accepted. footnote 2 , footnote 3
To use your debit card online:
Enter your 16-digit debit card number
When requested, enter expiry date and the three-digit code on the back of your card
If requested, for the ‘name on card’, enter your name, even if it doesn’t appear on the card itself
Don’t forget, all purchases made with your BMO Debit Card, whether online or in-app, come directly out of your primary bank account which is also known as the account in the chequing position.
In-app purchases
Add your debit card to your mobile wallet – Apple Pay or Google Pay – and start shopping securely with in-app purchases up to $3000. footnote 4


In-store shopping
By adding your debit card to your mobile wallet, you can use your smartphone to tap to pay for purchases up to $250. Just hold your device to the merchant terminal. footnote 5
When using your physical debit card, you can tap to pay for purchase up to $250. Just hold your card to the merchant terminal. footnote 5 For purchases over $250, insert your card and enter your personal identification number (PIN) at the terminal.
When travelling outside Canada, use your debit card anywhere Mastercard is accepted. footnote 2, footnote 3 If prompted to choose between Debit and Credit, . When prompted, enter your PIN or sign the receipt.
When using your Interac debit card at any Canadian public transit authority to pay for a fare, the transaction won’t apply towards your monthly debit transaction count. At participating transit authorities footnote 6 , this includes tapping your debit card or mobile wallet at a fare reader to pay for an adult fare.
Manage your debit card online
Report your debit card as lost or stolen If you think your debit card has been lost or stolen, you can let us know and request a replacement online.
Lock your debit card Misplaced your debit card? You can lock it online immediately to pause any transactions made with it. When you’re ready to unlock your debit card, it’s just as easy.
Change your debit card PIN Simply choose a new PIN online, then activate it the next time you visit an ATM or make an in-store purchase with your debit card.
Detailed transactions
Managing your debit card is now easier than ever with our enhanced transaction details. When you select an in-store purchase you made, you’ll get more information, such as:
Comprehensive merchant name
Address and phone number
Location of the purchase on Google Maps™ mapping service
These enhanced details are available for in-store purchases only. To find them, go to your debit card’s Account Summary then go to your Transaction List. Choose a specific purchase to get more details.
BMO Debit Card frequently asked questions
You can quickly report your debit card as lost or stolen and request a new card through the BMO Mobile Banking app. Just follow these steps:
- Sign into Mobile Banking
- Select your bank account and then ‘Manage Card’ on the account details page (the gear icon)
- Select the ‘It’s lost or stolen’ option
- Review your information and submit
A new debit card will arrive in the mail in 6 to 8 business days. You can also visit your nearest branch or call us at 1-800-361-3361 to report a missing card.
